The Brownsville School Improvement Plan is an annual document that reflects our school's focus areas. As part of our continuous effort to improve our school, Brownsville has adopted three primary school improvement goals for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Our staff has reviewed our data, held many meetings and discussions regarding areas of strength and weakness across all grade levels, and developed an implementation plan to address our needs. This is a continuous process and goals will be revised and updated as needed throughout the school year. All of our goals support and are aligned with the Albemarle County Public Schools' mission and goals. Our shared purpose is to establish a community of learners and learning, through rigor, relevance, and relationships, one student at a time.

Our three proposed School Improvement Goals are:

1. Language Arts: Increase student achievement in language arts.  Demonstrate 90% pass rate for all membership groups, as measured through county benchmarks and state testing.
2. Math: Improve student achievement in mathematics in all membership groups by increasing number sense performance.  Demonstrate 85% AYP benchmarks in all membership groups.
3. Climate: To increase strategies to provide a community of caring and respect for all Brownsville children, staff, and families.

In working to meet our goals, quarterly reviews will be held to review how each of our students is progressing in each grade level, strategies will be reviewed, revised, and implemented based on those reviews, and our professional learning grade level teams will consistently review and follow curriculum pacing guides based on the Virginia Standards of Learning to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum. Meeting school improvement goals is not easy but absolutely necessary id we are to ensure that we are not leaving any of our children behind.
