Dear Parents & Guardians:

Western Albemarle High School is pleased to announce an opportunity for you to pilot our new Parent/Student Portal starting on Wednesday, January 25, and continuing throughout second semester. The Parent/Student Portal is a powerful on-line tool for parents/guardians and students to participate more fully in the educational process.

During the pilot, both parents and students may track academic progress and attendance for each class in the student's schedule from any device having internet access. Through the Grades and Attendance function, you will be able to check your student's assignments and scores.

In order to use the portal, parents/guardians first need to obtain an Access Key to create an account. An Access Key consists of an Access ID and an Access Password. The Access Keys are individualized for each student. Anyone with a student's Access Key can access that student's information through the portal, so please protect the ID and password as you would for any other confidential information.

Because of the Access Key's sensitive nature, you must personally pick up your Access Key from the school. We will not be giving Access Keys to students, mailing them home, or sharing them over the telephone. Beginning on Thursday, January 19, you may obtain your Access Key at WAHS during regular school hours from the Counseling Office. In an effort to help expedite the process, they will also be available on Thursday, January 19 and Friday, January 20 from 8 AM until 9 AM and from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM in the gym lobby. Only one parent needs to be present to get the Access Key. Multiple accounts can be created from one Access Key, and more than one person may access a single account. Once you receive your Access Key, you may set up your account; however, the ability to view grades and attendance will begin on January 25.

To help you understand and use the portal, we are posting step-by-step instructions on the school website (see attachements below). Also, at our Curriculum Expo on the evening of Wednesday, February 1 the counseling staff will be available from 6 to 7 PM to assist you with this process. You may contact the Counseling Office at 434-823-8700 ext. 3 should you have questions or need assistance anytime during the pilot.

Thank you for your assistance and support in implementing this new tool for communicating academic information to our families. We look forward to your feedback as we begin this pilot.

Sincerely,

Dave Francis
Principal
