Basic Rider Training

Get on the Road to High Performance

Basic Rider Course (BRC)

This course is for anyone who wants to learn to ride a motorcycle properly and safely. Students first attend four hours of classroom instruction, then they learn under controlled range conditions, the basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective braking and obstacle avoidance, as well as safe riding strategies. Completion of the course prepares the student for state licensing, supersedes the DMV road & written tests, and qualifies the student for an insurance discount with some companies.

Students should be 18 years of age or older; however exceptions to the age requirement may be made with administrative and written parental permission. Students over 18 years of age must have a valid Driver's License. Students between 16 & 3 months and 19 years must have a valid Driver's License and it is suggested that they also hold a current Virginia Motorcycle Learner's Permit. Students should be in good health and must be able to ride a bicycle, students who are unable to maintain balance on the motorcycle may not be permitted to continue in the class. Instructor(s) have the final authority to determine participation in the riding portion of the course.

There are no substitutions and refunds will not be made for "no shows." Students must be on time and no refunds for late arrivals. In order to receive a full refund, you must withdraw at least two weeks prior to the class start date.
