Driver's Ed. & Behind the Wheel

Driver Education Classroom
Summer School 2009
There are five opportunities to take the Driver's Ed. Classroom this summer:
 

HEALTH II ...will be offered twice this summer (8am to 1:30pm): June 22nd through July 10th, and July 15th through August 4th. This three-week class provides 36 hours of Driver's Ed. plus the first semester of Health II. The student receives one-half credit upon completion of the course. Albemarle High School, Western Albemarle, Monticello High, and Murray High students, who have not had Health II, must take this class. Registration is through the guidance office and begins May 4th.

Driver's Ed. CLASSROOM ONLY...will be offered three times this summer:

#5002A June 15th through June 26th, 9am-1pm,
#5002B July 6th through July 17th, 9am-1pm, and
#5002C July 20th through July 31st, 9am-1pm.

Note: Classes fill early.

This 10-day class provides 40 hours of classroom instruction. It is intended for students who: (1) attend private schools, (2) are home school students, (3) are students from other school systems or (4) Albemarle County students who have had Health II. Tuition is $127. Register in room 98 or call 975-9450/975-9451.  Or, you can register on-line at www.opendoors1.org with Visa or MasterCard.

**Pay tuition at least 2 weeks before class starts.

Behind the Wheel Training

Driver Education in-car training will be provided this summer at the AHS driving Range.
Students should choose from the following schedule. Number your first 3 choices.  No classes Saturday or Sunday.

Classes are two hours in length.  Choose from the following times and the following sessions:  

____ 8 am to 10 am
____ 10 am to 12 pm
____ 1 pm to 3 pm
____ 3 pm to 5 pm
____ 5 pm to 7 pm

N/A ____ Session:  July 15 to July 23
N/A ____ Session:  July 20 to July 28
____ Session:  June 24 to July 2 ____ Session:  July 22 to July 30

Registration for Behind the Wheel:

To take in-car training a student must have a valid Virginia Learner's Permit, completed
36 hr. Driver Ed. Classroom, and completed 15-20 hrs. of their driving log. To reserve a
training section the student must present his/her Learner's Permit and pay the $290.
tuition at the time of registration as well as turn in the VA Dept. of Ed. Parent Permission form and the Parent Seminar certificate.

Registrations will be handled in room 98 at Albemarle High School. Due to summer office hours (9am-2pm), call Community Education at 975-9450 to schedule an appointment to register (to be sure someone is in the office). 

To register by mail, print the registration form & VA Dept. of Ed. Parent Permission form 
(see Registration Forms & Manual on the home page).  Include a check for $290. payable
to Albemarle County Schools, Certificate from the free parent seminar, and a copy of
Learner's Permit (we must be able to read issue date & customer number). If the
student did not take classroom at an Albemarle County High School, the DEC-1 "green" card
showing completion of Driver Ed. classroom must be included.  Your registration is not complete until the office receives all the required paperwork listed above.
