Top 5 SchoolCenter Tricks

5. Make online review sessions using the test bank component.

Add a test bank component and make some practice tests that students can use anytime. These work great for SOL review or just for fun!

4. Make your document manager open to a default category.

Use this trick when your document manager contains several categories and you want it the same category to open when visitors first open the page. Browse to your Document Manager and go to Page Settings. The second option down reads, 'Default Category' and can be set to any category that you have created. The category chosen here will be the default category when the document manager is first opened.

3. Take multiple calendars and display them in one master calendar.

Are you using multiple calendars to sort out the assignments and due dates for all your classes. Did you know you can create a single calendar that displays entries from other calendars? To create a master calendar you will need to add a Classroom Calendar component. While in edit mode look for the option to 'Show Other'. When you click on that option you are presented with a site map and you can check the various calendars that you want to display.

2. Turn on Notify Subscriber feature to keep your audience connected as you update your page.

Just about any page in SchoolCenter has the option to compile a subscriber list and allow you to notify these people as changes are made to your site. Click on Page Settings and look for the check box that reads, 'Allow Public to Subscribe to this Page'. After doing this there will be a new link at the bottom of your page that reads, 'Subscribe to page'. Users can click on this and add or remove their email address from the subscription list. When you are ready and you have some people subscribed to your page choose the option to, 'Notify Subscribers', located near the 'Log Off' button when you are logged in and viewing your page.

1. Bring large photos down to size using thumbnail graphics.

When you insert a graphic into SchoolCenter, either within the Advanced ContentEditor or clicking the green, "Add Picture and Text" button you are presented with a dialogue box that guides you through the upload. One of the first options you see as you pick out your pictures is the Thumbnail Size option. When you choose one of these the picture will be inserted at the size specified and a link will be added right below it that reads, click to enlarge. To see an example, click here.
