Albemarle County Public Schools is currently participating in a rebate program offered by the Albemarle County Service Authority (ASCA) that involves replacing toilet fixtures that use more than 1.6 gallons per flush. Participating in this program will enable us to conserve a significant amount of water, but also will allow us to provide many new toilets, urinals and flush valves for our facilities at a minimal cost to the school division. Phase I of the project includes Albemarle High School and Western Albemarle High School, where 111 toilet fixtures and 48 urinals are slated to be replaced. Phase II will include a review of the other schools on public water supply, built prior to 1996. Toilets made prior to 1981 use as much as 5.5 to 7.5 gallons of water per flush, while the new ultra low-flush toilets use no more than 1.6 gallons per flush. As our Environmental Mangement System (EMS) progresses, we plan to include water conservation goals and objectives. Please revisit this site for updates. |
