Admissions and Application for students

The Community Public Charter School proposes to create a diverse student community and learning environment through a system that meets federal requirements and is designed to equitably recruit and meet the needs of diverse learners.  The Community Public Charter School will not discriminate in its admission process.  Enrollment will be open to any Albemarle County student.  All students who meet the criteria of being unsuccessful or underserved in their previous school years will enter the lottery with a weight of two places.

We will recruit students using recommendations from fifth grade teachers and school personnel.  Teachers and principals have assured us that the cohort of students we are seeking to serve is a known group of students who have difficulty in school and face increasing challenges as they enter middle school.

If we do not exceed our enrollment goal of 36 students during the open enrollment period, students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis.  Once we have reached full enrollment, after April 2nd, a waitlist will begin and will remain in order of first come, first served.

If we do exceed our enrollment goal of 36 students within the open enrollment period all registered students will be entered into a lottery(students at risk of failure weighted) and we will randomly select students for the upcoming school year as deemed prudent by Charter School Law, Act 22. All students' names will be drawn in the lottery to establish a waitlist after we reach full enrollment.  The lottery will be held on April 9th. All lottery drawings will be witnessed by a representative staff member and a school parent.  Official records of lottery drawings will be kept on file in the school office.  Any students submitting applications after April 2nd will automatically go to the end of the waitlist generated by the lottery.  All waitlists are for that school year only and do not rollover for the following year.

The school will open with 36 students in grades six in August, 2008.  In August, 2009, we will take an additional 36 students in grade six until we reach a total population of 108 students.
