The purpose of the Sutherland Video Club is to provide an opportunity for our students to learn, to apply and to be creative with video technology. One way the Video Club serves our school community is by operating a student-run TV station, WSMS, which broadcasts over our closed circuit system. The Sutherland Video Club maintains a studio and control room, located in the Media Center. School wide announcements are aired daily by WSMS on the Morning News Desk. Everyone who joins Video Club gets to train and participate on WSMS crews. Besides broadcast training, other opportunities include videography activities, training on editing software, project assistance, mobile shoots and field trips. The Video Club has an open door policy-anyone can join and participate. There are no regularly scheduled meetings, other than one organizational meeting held shortly after a new member joins. Most training occurs before school begins (8:15 to 9:00AM), when the new member works on the WSMS morning show. After basic training, students choose activities in which they wish to participate and the amount of time they wish to devote to those activities. Seventh and eighth graders who wish to join this school year can pick up an application during September. Sixth graders can join in December. The exact dates and information will be announced over the Morning News Desk on WSMS. Be advised that the Faculty Sponsor for Video Club is Mr. Wynne Taylor, a sixth grade math teacher. Contact him if you would like more information about this club. He is always eager to talk with others who are interested in the exciting prospects of video technology. |
