We support our mission by providing support in the three developmental areas: personal/social, academic, and career. Personal Social Students often have a dificult time learning when they have other stressors in their ives. We provide a number of supports in this area. We provide small group counseling in areas that include: family, friendship, stress, anger, and study skills. Walton also has an active peer mediation program which assists student who are in conflict with each other. This is a safe, confidential method wherein students are encouraged to communicate with each other in a productive, positive manner. Academic We help students in a number a ways with academics. Each spring we communicate with all Walton students about next years' course offerings. We help them make informed decisions about core and explotatory classes. Please refer to our documents page for ths years' exploratory offerings and descriptions of levels of the diferent core classes. During winter, all eighth graders meet with thier school counselor for high school registration. They are also given the opportunity to visit with the high school counselors and tour Monticello High School. Please fell free to contact the school counseling office if you have any uestions about scheduling or your child's academic path. Career At the middle school level, we engage students in career exploration. We try to teach them the many career paths that exist. All seventh graders visit the Career EXPO at UVA in the fall. All eighth graders visit the Charlottesville Albemarle Career and Technical Center (CATEC) and hear from business leaders in the community through the Commonwealth Scholars program. Contact Us Though we attempt to help students in group settings such as small group, classroom, grade level, and school wide activities, we realize that many concerns need to be individually addressed. Students and parents are encouraged to make an appointment with their school counselor at anytime.
