Instructional Technology

The prime objective for the use of Instructional Technology is the creation of engaged, multidimensional classrooms that best serve the needs of a diverse community of learners, in accordance with Albemarle County Public Schools' stated mission to "provide and promote a dynamic environment for learning through which all students acquire the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to live as informed and productive members of society." As these students will live and work in a society increasingly shaped by advances in technology, it is imperative that Albemarle County graduates exhibit skill and competency regarding technology use.

Instructional objectives for technology exist for students, as well as for instructional staff, as articulated in the Virginia Standards of Learning.

It is the intent of Albemarle County Public Schools to promote and support the use of instructional technology to create an active, student-centered learning environment, characterized by authentic and investigative learning projects, and increased interaction and awareness among students, teachers, and the global community. Albemarle County Public Schools intends to utilize its technological resources to provide assessment and intervention options for at-risk students, promote and monitor the development of basic skills, and to ensure that all students develop the skills necessary to be productive citizens of the 21st Century.
