The Math, Engineering & Science Academy (MESA) is part of Albemarle County Public Schools. This "school within a school" will operate out of the new science wing at Albemarle High School. Below are some important dates to know about applying for admission to attend MESA for 2009-10.
Please check back as deadlines may change. December 2009 - Application for MESA 2010-11will be available from MESA website ( www.k12albemarle.org/mesa ) or from school counselors. The application includes student writing and demonstration of problem-solving skills, and requires three letters of recommendation from current math and science teachers and another person who knows the student. Download the application and the letters of reference from the Application and Forms page. Applications January 3rd 2010 - MESA will begin receiving applications. Applications may be delivered to the students middle school guidance counselors or to AHS. Applications may also be mailed to MESA; c/o Albemarle High School; 2775 Hydraulic Road; Charlottesville, VA 22901, faxed to (434) 974-4335, attention Jeff Prillaman. February 1, 2010 - Applicantion Due date. In the event Albemarle County schools are closed due to inclement weather on the 1st, the deadline will be extended to the next full school day. March 5th, 2010 - Student letters will be sent. Notification of acceptance will be sent both electronically and in writing. Students will be accepted, denied or placed on the waiting list. Any openings created will be filled at random from the Wait List. March 19th, 2010 - Students will confirm acceptance. Middle school counselors will be notified.
