1. The Golden Apple Award is a means of honoring one or more of our outstanding teachers here at Sutherland. This award is given to nominated teachers that have made a profound impact on our students. Nominate a teacher and show your appreciation and support. 2. Diversity for Life Club (D4L) is sponsoring a March Madness Dance on Friday, March 19th from 4-6 p.m. We would appreciate any help that you may provide. We would like to have at least 10 parent volunteers to help us with checking dance stamps, selling food and other items, as well as monitoring the gym during a basketball tournament and the computer lab for video games. If you can help for either one hour or both, we would LOVE to have you help! I will assign you wherever you are comfortable working. 3. To ALL Band Parents: Please plan to join us at our next Band Boosters meeting on Thursday, March 11 at 7 pm in the band room. We will be discussing our fundraising efforts so far this year, and upcoming band events including concerts, festivals, the Dogwood Festival Parade and the Kings Dominion trip. We also need to be thinking ahead to next year's leadership team. Please attend....we need your support!!
4. The elective form sent home with all 6th and 7th grade students is now due in the Front Office at Sutherland. Students were asked to rank their elective choices for the 2010/2011 school year. If your form is still at home, please send it in with your child as soon as possible.
5. The Albemarle School Board approved using Monday, 2/15 and Friday, 4/2 as makeup days for the instructional time lost due to inclement weather. This means that assuming school will reopen on Monday, 2/15, students will attend school for a full 5-day week. In addition, the original school calendar called for Friday, April 2, to be a student holiday and the beginning of Spring Break, however, that Friday will now be a regular school day and is the last day of this nine week reporting period. Spring Break will now begin on Monday, April 5. Students will return to school on Monday, April 12. Parents who have pre-planned activities for their families for 2/15 or 4/2 should work with their principal to arrange an excused absence.
