1. The H1N1 clinic scheduled to be administered at Sutherland on November 5th has been postponed until Friday, November 13th. This postponement is necessary due to the priority being given to elementary school students and the inadequate supply of the vaccine at this time. If you have already sent in your consent forms  (which are available here for download ), your child will still receive the shot at the clinic on the 13th. If you returned the consent forms and your child has ALREADY gotten the vaccine elsewhere, please notify the school nurse, Marie Souder, at 975-0599 and send a note in with your child stating the change in plans. If you would still like for your child to get the vaccine on the 13th and have not completed the form, you may still do so.

2. 7th grade students will attend the Career Expo at the University of Virginia on Tuesday, November 17th, from 9:15 to 12:00.  Ms. East and Mr. Guy, will present a preview in their Language Arts classes on November 9th & 10th.  The morning at UVA will consist of a ballroom full of exhibitors from various careers sharing information with the students on what qualifications are necessary for particular jobs.  Afterwards, the students will hear two presentations.  One presenter, who is a professional from the area, will speak about important skills essential to securing a desired job.  In addition, UVA students will present in another session about challenging oneself while in school to learn important skills essential to become a life-long learner.

3. The 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. Is coming up in March.  Reminder to all parents that the registration deadline is November 15th, 2009. Please be sure to either mail in your registration or do so online prior to that date. Questions should be directed to Mr. Smith.

4. The 8th grade is sponsoring a pancake breakfast on Sunday, November 15th from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM at TGIFridays. The cost is $5.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased from any 8th grade student, the SMS front office or at Maggie Moos. Funds raised from the breakfast will help with the 8th grade trip to DC.

5. Attention 8th Grade parents and students: on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, the 8th grade will be running a concession stand outside of Hollymead Elementary School. The concession stand will sell hot chocolate, coffee, and snacks. Please donate baked goods for this fundraiser. Pies, cakes, breads, and cookies are requested. If you bake cookies, please package two cookies per baggie. Items can be dropped off on Monday, November 2, 2009, to the office.
