K/1 SRE Class Heads Pennies for Peace Project

In December Ginny Haney's K/1 class headed a school-wide effort to raise money for the Pennies for Peace program. Teachers in many SR classrooms read the book
Listen to the Wind, THE STORY of DR. GREG & THREE CUPS OF TEA
to their classrooms and discussed Dr. Greg's efforts and accomplishments. A school-wide penny drive was then headed up by Ms. Haney's class for a two week period. The goal was to see if the school could donate enough pennies to fill two empty water cooler jugs. Children from Ms. Haney's class collected the pennies from each classroom in the school in the mornings. Children from various classrooms and grades spent some fun math time counting the donations and totaling the money raised. It was a huge success! In the end, the school brought in $750.00 to donate to the Pennies for Peace Program! This money will help buy needed school supplies for children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Thank you to all that donated!
