Open Gym / Parents Meeting

There will be no Open Gym on Tuesday July 27th due to a Volleyball Staff Meeting.  The 2010 Fall Athlete Parents Meeting is Thursday July 29th at 6:00pm in the Forum.  Topics will include the new athletic fee and 4x4 block scheduling as it relates to athletics.  Season passes and booster club membership applications will also be available.

Tryouts

Volleyball tryouts will start on August 2nd at 4:00pm in the Main Gym.  Any students in grades 8-12 are invited to attend.  Tryouts will run from the 4th to the 6th from 4:00pm to 6:15pm. 

July 30th Camp Canceled!

The July 30th Camp has been canceled due to low enrollment.  If you have paid, you will receive a full refund.  If you have any question, please don't hesitate to contact Coach Mitchem with any questions. 

Shoe Fitting

If you were unable to attend the shoe fitting on July 20th, you can stop by Downtown Athletic and try on the Mizuno Shoes.  Order forms will be given to athletes once the teams have been selected. 

Welcome Coach Kirkendoll!

We are pleased to announce the hiring of Coach Sara Kirkendoll as an assistant on the Monticello High School Volleyball Staff.  Coach Kirkendoll comes to us from Colorado where she coached High School Volleyball.  Coach Kirkendoll played collegiately and club volleyball.  Coach Kirkendoll is excited for the upcoming season and looks forward to seeing everyone at tryouts!

2009 Season Review

"Sacrifice"

The Monticello High School Volleyball team completed a great season.  The groundwork has been laid for a bright future.  The Junior Varsity team finished the regular season with a record of 12 wins and 7 losses.  They qualified for the Jefferson District Junior Varsity Championship.  The team played well, but was unable to defeat the JV team from Western Albemarle. 

The Varsity Squad finished the regular season with a 14-6 record and in sole possession of 3rd place in the Jefferson District.  The team competed in the Virginia Volleyball Showcase and ended with a 2-2 record against all AAA competition.  The solid start gave the team plenty of momentum for the season.  After going 4-2 in non-district play, the Mustangs finished district play with a 10-4 record. There were four Mustangs that were recognized by the Jefferson District coaches for their efforts on the court this season.  Seniors Christine Archer and Erica Watson were both selected to the First Team All Jefferson District.  Senior Amanda Powell and Junior Kate Geldmacher were both selected as Second Team All District Performers.  Along with the athletes, Head Coach John Mitchem was selected as Jefferson District Coach of the Year.
